Hi, my name is Jules (Julien), and I welcome you to Small Claims Me. If you are in the process of, or just thinking about making a small claim in the UK or even the USA/AUS/CAN (I PERSONALLY CANT ADVISE FOR USA/AUS/CAN CASES MYSELF) or need some help or advice, then please visit the forum page and make a post.

Small Claims Me, gives open and private small claims advice and has helped people successfully through the process of the small claims court, and who are unrepresented.

Solicitors in the UK often won’t take on a small claims case due to not being able to charge for their costs. Although not a solicitor, a lay representative in the UK, may be partially qualified either by experience or qualification, as in my case. Also solicitors or other legal professionals, and legal students hungry for experience both in the UK and probably in the USA may give advice for free or for a tokenistic fee, so why not give us a try and post your case.

(UK CLIENTS) If you are in need of legal guidance on any issue to do with small claims and small claims only, be it writing letters before action or even trial hearings, free help is often available for you through the whole process, and where I personally decide to take on your case it will be at no cost to yourselves (until further notice).

(USA/AUS/CAN CLIENTS) I personally dont know much about the system of small claims in the USA/AUS/CAN but, and i’m flying by wire here, imn sure there are people hungry to help you in your claim from the relevant countries.

Due to time constraints and other ongoing projects and doing this on my own, I can’t always guarantee that I personally, will be able to take on your UK claim, but that is the point of the website.

NOTE:

  • This site is visited by independent people, that maybe willing to offer advice. Other advisors may wish to charge you a tokenistic fee for undertaking your case, this should be discussed between yourselves over email and not in this forum please.
  • Users seeking advice or representation, do so at their own risk. This site has a section denoted to people seeking free legal advice and as such is open to advisors or opinions of people that may or may not have legal qualifications.
  • If advisors seek payments for undertaking your small claims cases, then users seeking advice should try to ascertain whether or not the advisor has any legal background/experience, and proceed accordingly.
  • My own recommendation would be that your advisor would be LPC trained/graduate minimum or LPC student probably having completed their stage one at least and if in the UK – please understand however that an LPC will in no way guarantee necessarily, a successful claim. If in the USA I would implement the same methodology and a legal status akin to that in the UK.
  • SCM also offers online mediation services for those wishing to resolve an issue or dispute outside the court system. Again clients should seek to ascertain whether or not the mediator has a recognized qualification and/or experience. Mediation is an unregulated activity however, and there are many superb independent mediators out there hungry for cases. Mediators will usually charge for their services and these costs should be organised between yourselves outside of this forum please.

There are two types of memberships here on SMCM –

The Client membership is free to people that are seeking advice on any legal issue and is the one that you should register under if seeking advice.

The Advisor membership is also free at this time, please advisors fill in your profiles FULLY – highlighting your legal qualifications etc in your descriptions. Please fill in your real names also…! Advisors that dont abide with this rule will be deleted.

Clients may I also highlight that you can post links up to private websites/blogs etc or business websites in your dashboard by hitting the community news link and filling out the form.

    Regards
    Jules

After the final judgement at the hearing, another user of SMCM found judgement in their favour with a positive result granted by the court, and for what was a complicated case all round. I give my congratulations to all the clients so far, and a thanx the very interesting cases they have brought, and for the courage and faith they have shown in SMCM.

With the small claims minimum being raised to £10,000, in what reports suggest will be 2013 (probably April), the small claims court and system holds a far greater opportunity for users of SMCM. Alongside the minimum being raised, IP law has been added to the varying areas of practical applicability. IP law, it is being suggested, will be added in 2013, and with this also goes new challenges and opportunities for both graduates of law and independent practictioners. Having passed my IP law elecetive, (still waiting for confirmation of my provisional LPC pass in total), I for one am quite looking forward to next year.

Again many thanx to the users and may there be many more in the future for us all.

    Regards
    Jules
